Google Sightseeing

Hollywoodsign

Google Maps Satellite service only launched recently, and already there's a blog devoted to prominent sites to view.

Putting my advertising head on, it's only a matter of time before agencies start cutting their clients' logos into the corn somewhere in America (crop circle style) and then giving Google Map addresses or GPS coordinates in their teaser campaigns. (kind of like this).

UPDATE

I've been finding some more interesting applications of these images. This one uses Flickr to create a memory map of a guy's childhood. Make sure you roll over the images.

BoingBoing also featured a nice hack that combines Google Maps and Apartments For sale/Rent listings on Craig's List.

Couldn't help myself. Too much good stuff out there.

Have a laugh. See a Christopher Guest retrospective at MOMA.

Feel good about yourself. See a play about a bunch of self-destructive, coked-up losers...HurlyBurly

Rock out. (do the kids still say this?) See Maroon 5 and The Donnas at Radio City.

Get Cultured. See some psychedelic elephant poo at the Public Art Fund exhibit in Central Park.

or just watch the Red Sox lose again...and again...and again...

I know I'm going to burn in hell for passing this on.

Tshirt1Small

If you thought the Schiavo blog we posted about a couple of weeks ago was sick, sick, sick, you really have no idea just how low others can go - here's a group of young people Doin' The Schiavo. There are even T Shirts to buy....

To mitigate revulsion at my posting this link, I offer the following excuse: “I won't beat around the bush -- I acted in clear violation of ethical standards, disappointing my high school guidance counselor. No one can wallow in more dejected self-loathing than I, though I emphasize that I will not allow my enemies to use this against me. All I can do is resign my office, and ask for your understanding.” At least, that's the excuse helpfully generated for me by the Excuse-O-Mat, and I'm sticking to it.

Let it be known that this the post where YesButNoButYes finally jumped the shark.

Weekend Guide

No listings of entertainment, sports or cultural events this week...something much more important to promote.

Anyone heard of Wisconsin Republican Congressman James Sensenbrenner Jr? No, well Congressman Sensenbrenner (also the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee) believes violators of federal broadcast decency standards should face criminal prosecution.

"People who are in flagrant disregard should face a criminal process rather than a regulatory process," the Wisconsin Republican said at the National Cable & Telecommunications Association annual convention.

Now, how many of these phrases ring a bell? Ministry of Truth...Thought Crime...Big Brother. Time to start paying attention, people...Our soldiers are fighting for Democracy in Iraq, and we're losing it here at home.

Heres a small step in the right direction. The ACLU website is promoting Couch Parties Against Censorship, an effort to get people to write their gov't representatives to speak out against censorship and protect our freedoms in the U.S.

I'm not too concerned, as congressman Sensenbrenner and politicians like him will hit a corporate brick wall when they realize who's putting alot of this content out there, and what corporations are behind them. But in the meantime, why don't all the people who still have brains start making some noise.

C is for Career Suicide

cookiemonster.jpg Sesame Street's Cookie Monster has given in to pressure from the higher ups at the Children Television Workshop and will now incorporate the phrase "A Cookie Is a Sometimes Food" into his regular, barely comprehensible verbage. Children's celebrity tabloids are already blaring the headlines that his career is over.

Television watchgroups have claimed that Cookie Monster is the sole cause for the obesity problem in America's Children. Sesame Street has responded to these charges by attempting to make Mr. Monster more responsible and health conscious. Expect this to be the beginning of a slow phase out in which the character becomes a minor player until his contract expires in 2008.

Apparently this is a real ad, according to Stay Free. (Have you ever noticed just how much time we devote to dissecting hamburger ads?)
