Ask most people to name the ten greatest films of all time, and you can bet The Godfather will be high on the list. And now, EA games have announced an Xbox and Playstation game based on the movie.
As EA describes it:
"Featuring non-linear action-adventure gameplay, The Godfather will offer gamers countless choices for solving the family’Äôs problems with brutal violence, skillful diplomacy, or a cunning mixture of both. From mob hits and bank heists to drive-bys and extortion, step deep inside the world of The Godfather where intimidation and negotiation are your tickets to the top. Players will use their powers of loyalty and fear to earn respect through interactions with characters in the world. Decisions made by the player in the game will have lasting consequences, just as it was in the mob underworld featured in The Godfather fiction."
All of which sounds very cool. But the geek out starts when you realized that EA have licensed Nino Rota's classic soundtrack. And it increases exponentially when you hear that both James Caan and Robert Duvall have returned to the franchise, and will be lending their voices to Sonny Corleone & Tom Hagen respectively.
But the ultimate geek out comes when you hear that, before he died, not only did Marlon Brando grant the use of his likeness in the game, he rerecorded many of his lines from the film in an exclusive EA recording session. Don Corleone lives!
The Godfather game is due in the Fall.
