As I have so many project ideas that I will never see through to completion I thought I would just start sharing them.
One of them is a grammar of pornography and the semiotic study of the various poses. It doesnt take more than a 12 month subscription to Playboy to see that they recycle the same poses over and over again. The rotating girls become, in essence, an exercise in styling. Some of the poses have a very overt narrative, like "the raped and left for dead woman" pose you see in so many jeans ads. This juxtaposition was just too weird not to share.

You may wish to reference the seminal "Decoding the visual grammar of pornography: A critical comparison of softcore pornography with women's fashion magazines" - a paper presented at the annual meeting of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Communication Law and Policy Division, Albuquerque, NM, May 25-29, 1995 by G. Durham.
Hehe - isn't google a wonderful thing?
Shit. I never thought to google that! I bet he dosent have the Burt shot in Power Point presentation. :)
My considered opinion is that that paper is a little dated today.
The art of positioning the body for a photographic enterprise has progressed so very far since 1955. I very much look forward to "Playboy and Burt Reynolds in the 21st Century: A subversive superpower in denim sales or The moustachioed androgeny of naked marketing" Feb 14, 2005 by C. Clack.
You mst have a far superior porn collection (and I believe you do) or a more flexible ability to suspend disbelief.
I am merely incredibly deluded. Oh, and I have far too large a porn collection too. I'm sure that they're causally related in some way, but I'm not quite sure what the direction of the causality is.
